The above order was made on 23rd July 2026. The effect of the order will be to divert:
• Public footpath Atherton No. 71 is described in the Definitive Statement for Atherton as: “Ladies Walk commences at Bee Fold Lane at junction of Footpaths Nos. 65 and 68 near Hope Fold in an easterly direction to west boundary of restored Colliery tips, up slope and thence to squeezer stile where path is fenced on north and south sides, thence to squeezer stile near nursery garden and on to junction with Millers Lane.” There is no width stated within the definitive statement for Atherton for public footpath No. 71. The full width of this public footpath is to be stopped up at point A on the map at grid reference 367041 402469, in an easterly direction for approximately 308 metres to point B on the map at grid reference 367350 402491.

• From point A on the map at grid reference 367041 402269 in a generally easterly direction for approximately 420 metres to point B on the map at grid reference 367350 402491 where it continues east towards Millers Lane on the continuation of public footpath Atherton No. 71. A copy of the order and the order map have been placed and may be seen free of charge at the Town Hall, Library Street, Wigan, WN1 1YN between the hours of 9am and 4:30pm on any day Monday to Friday or may be requested by emailing S.Eccles-Churton@wigan.gov.uk Copies of the order and map may be bought there at the price of £1.
Any representations about or objections to the order, may be sent in writing to the Chief Legal Officer at the Town Hall, Library Street, Wigan, WN1 1YN or by emailing the email address above, not later than 4th September 2026. Please state the grounds on which they were made.
If no such representations or objections are duly made, or if any so made are withdrawn, Wigan Borough Council may, confirm the order as an unopposed order. If the order is sent to the Secretary of State for confirmation, any representations and objections which have not been withdrawn, will be sent with the order.
