Community Council Elections Thursday 22 October 2026
Notice is hereby given, pursuant to the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, that South Lanarkshire Council (“the Council”) has provided notice to the undernoted Community Councils to proceed with an election in terms of South Lanarkshire Council’s Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils:
Auldhouse and Chapelton Jackton and Thorntonhall - East Mains
Sandford and Upper Avondale Strathaven and Glassford - St Leonards Westwood
The elections will be held on Thursday 22 October 2026 or shortly thereafter, and existing members of Community Councils will cease to hold office at midnight on Wednesday 21 October 2026.
Any person on the Register of Electors, for the area of the Community Council who seeks election to their Community Council, should lodge a nomination form signed by the prospective Community Councillor. The form should then be countersigned by a proposer and seconder, both of whom shall also be on the Register of Electors for the area.
Nomination forms are available from Administration and Legal Services and the council website www.southlanarkshire.gov.uk.
Completed forms should be returned to Administration and Legal Services no later than 4pm on 10 September 2026.
Boundary maps of the Community Council areas are available on request or on the Council website and a copy of the Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils can also be made available to you on request or via the council website. In the event of more nominations being received than vacancies available, an election will be held on a date to be determined by the council. Notification of any elections will be provided in due course.
