What is happening?
Mission and Pastoral Measure 2011
The Church Commissioners have prepared a draft Pastoral Church Buildings Scheme providing solely for the church of St Mary Magdalen, Accrington, being one of the two parish churches of the parish of The Good Shepherd in the diocese of Blackburn, to be declared closed for regular public worship.
A copy of the draft Scheme may be inspected at the two parish churches of St Mary Magdalen; and St Andrew in the affected parish. You may also access the draft Scheme on the Commissioners' website at www.churchofengland.org/consultation or obtain or inspect a copy during normal office hours by applying to the Commissioners. You may make representations either for or against all or any part of the draft Scheme in writing to Rex Andrew, Pastoral Division, Church Commissioners, Church House, Great Smith Street, London, SW1P 3AZ or, preferably, by email to rex.andrew@churchofengland.org to reach him not later than midnight on 14 September 2026. Those making representations should indicate the nature of their interest and whether they would like an opportunity to speak to the Committee regarding their representations in the event the Commissioners decide a hearing should be held regarding the case. For details of this process see www.ccpastoral.org, phone Rex Andrew on 020 7898 1743 or, preferably, email him.
