What is happening?

Hackney Carriage maximum fare increase

SEVENOAKS DISTRICT COUNCIL, in accordance with the provisions of Section 65 of The Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1976, HEREBY GIVE NOTICE that the Hackney Carriage fares for the District Council’s area are proposed to be varied as shown hereunder in the table of fares:

HACKNEY CARRIAGE PERMITTED MAXIMUM FARES

(a) DISTANCE

Charge for the first 880 yards (5/10 mile) or part thereof £4.62

Then for each additional 176 yards approx. (1/10 mile) £0.33

(b) WAITING TIME for each period of 1 minute £0.55

(c) WAITING TIME (WITH INDICATED EXTRA CHARGES APPLIED AS BELOW) for each period of 1 minute

(d) (ii) £0.72
(d) (iii) £0.72
(d) (iv) £0.99

(d) EXTRA CHARGES

(i) Additional Passengers For each person in excess of four persons` 25% of prescribed fare

(ii) For hiring begun between 10pm and 7am (except all Bank & Public holidays) £2.20 per fare

(iii) For hiring on Public & Bank Holidays (other than Christmas & New Year holidays) £2.42 per fare

(iv) For hiring on Christmas & New Year Holidays (commencing 6pm on Christmas Eve to 6am 27 December and 6pm New Year’s Eve to 6am 2 January) 100% of prescribed fare

(v) For carriage of pets (other than dogs for registered disabled people) £3.63

(e) SPOILAGE

Any claim for damage causing spoilage to the interior of the vehicle MUST be a matter between the proprietor of the vehicle and the passenger.

A copy of this Notice shall, for a period of 14 days from the date of first publication, be deposited at The Offices of the Council at Argyle Road, Sevenoaks.

Persons wishing to make objections to this table of fares may do so in writing to the undersigned by 3 August 2026.
