What is happening?

CHELMSFORD CITY COUNCIL
HACKNEY CARRIAGE (TAXI) FARES
Section 65(2)(a) Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Regulatory Committee of Chelmsford City Council, at its meeting held on 9 July 2026, approved for consultation a proposal to vary the Hackney Carriage table of fares.

The proposed tariff is available for inspection on the Council's website at www.chelmsford.gov.uk and at the Civic Centre, Duke Street, Chelmsford, Essex, CM1 1JE during normal office hours.

The principal proposed changes include:

Journey - Current Fare - Proposed Fare

Initial charge (pull off) £3.60 £4.00

2 miles - £7.30 - £8.20

3 miles - £10.20- £10.80

5 miles - £15.20 - £16.00

10 miles - £27.60 - £28.80

The full proposed table of fares, including all tariffs and miscellaneous extras, is available for inspection as detailed above.

Any person wishing to object to the proposed table of fares should submit their objection in writing no later than 30th July 2026 by email to licensing@chelmsford.gov.uk or by post to:

If no objections are received, or if all objections are withdrawn, the revised table of fares will come into effect on 30th July 2026. If objections are received and not withdrawn, they will be considered by the Regulatory Committee before any revised table of fares is implemented.
