PUBLIC NOTICE
CHARNWOOD BOROUGH COUNCIL MEMBERS’ ALLOWANCES
A report from the Independent Remuneration Panel of Charnwood Borough Council was considered by the Council on 19th January 2026, and the recommendation relating to the allowances to be paid to members of the Council on 2026/27 was accepted.
The new scheme came into effect from 1st April 2026 and covers the period to 31st March 2027.
The allowances payable under the scheme are:

*Paid to Plans Committee Members (excluding the Chair and Vice Chair) and substitutes for each and every committee meeting attended.
OTHER
• Reimbursement of carers’ expenses.
• Reimbursement of travel expenses or mileage at the rates set by HMRC.
• Reimbursement of subsistence expenses.
The scheme also sets out the list of approved duties for which the reimbursement of expenses can be claimed. These include meetings of bodies to which councilors have been appointed by the Council, attending authorised training events and on 15 duty days per year when councillors consider that they are undertaking functions related to their role as councillors.
