ENVIRONMENT AGENCY

ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Land Drainage Improvement Works (Amended) Regulations 1999 SI 1999/1783

Whitchurch River Restoration Project

The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out improvement works to the flood defences on the River Test in Whitchurch between u/s NGR SU 47630 47842 and d/s SU4726547665, a distance of 0.45 kilometres. The proposed improvement works will involve the following: River restoration: weir removal, bed raising, channel narrowing/reprofiling and creation of offtake to the woodland carrier.

The Environment Agency considers that the improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of them. The works are small in scale under 1 hectare, and are not expected to cause significant environmental risks. They will have overall positive environmental effects through river restoration and habitat improvement. Any minor construction impacts will be minimised using standard best practices and controlled through an Environmental Action Plan. Further details are available in an Environmental Report from the Environment Agency.

Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the email address below, within 30 days of the date of publication of this notice.
