Notice of Proposal for a Prescribed Alteration to Charlestown Community Primary School Manchester
Notice is given in accordance with section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006, that Manchester City Council intends to make a prescribed alteration to Charlestown Community Primary School, Pilkington Road, Manchester, M9 7BX with effect from September 2026. Manchester City Council proposes to establish a 30-place Special Educational Needs (SEN) Unit at Charlestown Community Primary School.
Charlestown Community Primary School serves the area of Charlestown and provides mainstream education for primary-aged children. The SEN Unit will enable the school to support pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and / or Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN), within their community.
The current capacity of Charlestown Community Primary School is 420 pupils. Under the proposal, the overall capacity of the school will remain the same with bespoke accommodation being provided.
If approved, the SEN unit will open from September 2026.
The admission of pupils to the SEN Unit will be managed by the SEN statutory assessment process.
