SECTION 123(2A) LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT 1972

NOTICE OF PROPOSED DISPOSAL OF LAND AT NORTH WALLS RECREATION GROUND, WINCHESTER, HAMPSHIRE.

Notice is hereby given under Section 123(2A) of the above-mentioned Act that Winchester City Council proposes to dispose of the land described below (“the Land”).

This is a formal notice given insofar as the Land forms part of an open space within the meaning of the above Section, being land used for the purpose of public recreation.

The Land, which is proposed to be disposed of by way of a long lease for recreational purposes, consists of approximately 0.7 hectare (1.75 acres) of land being the site of the redundant leisure centre building (formerly River Park Leisure Centre) with associated car parking spaces, which together form part of open space land at North Walls Recreation Ground, Winchester, Hampshire. The Land is shown, for the purposes of identification only, edged red on a plan which is available at: www.winchester.gov.uk/public-notices-library or on request by emailing regen@winchester.gov.uk

The Council proposes to dispose of the Land so that it can be brought back into active recreational use for public benefit.

By virtue of Section 123(2A) of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council is required to give formal notice of its intention to dispose of land consisting of or forming part of open space and to consider any objections to the proposed disposal.

Any person who wishes to object to the proposed disposal of the above-mentioned land and building should do so in writing by emailing regen@winchester.gov.uk or writing to Simon Hendey, Strategic Director at Winchester City Council at the address below by 4pm on Thursday 2 July 2026.
