WAKEFIELD COUNCIL

PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990
(AS AMENDED), SECTION 69 CASTLEFORD CONSERVATION AREA

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN under the provisions of the 1990 Act that The Council of the City of Wakefield has determined that the areas described in the Schedule to this Notice are of special architectural or historic interest, and that it is desirable to preserve or enhance their character or appearance.

It has accordingly DESIGNATED the Castleford Conservation Area, so as to include these areas.

The principal effects of this area being included within the Conservation Area are as follows:

1 The Council is under a duty to prepare proposals to ensure the preservation or enhancement of the area.

2 Consent must be obtained from the Council for the demolition of any building in the area.

3 Special publicity must be given to planning applications for development in the area.

4 In carrying out any functions under the planning Acts (and, in particular, in determining applications for planning permission and listed building consent), the Council and the Secretary of State are required to take into account the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the area.

5 Six weeks-notice must be given to the Council before works are carried out to any tree in the area.

Schedule

The boundary is drawn to include;

Bank Street, St Oswald Street, Bradley Street (part), Back Wesley Street (part), Wesley Street, 8 Sagar Street, Former Kingdom Hall Sagar Street and 76-76a Carlton Street. A map of the conservation area can be inspected on the Council’s website or by request from devcontrol@wakefield.gov.uk

FELKIRK & HODROYD CONSERVATION AREA

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN under the provisions of the 1990 Act that The Council of the City of Wakefield has determined that the areas described in the Schedule to this Notice are of special architectural or historic interest, and that it is desirable to preserve or enhance their character or appearance.

It has accordingly DESIGNATED the Felkirk & Hodroyd Conservation Area, so as to include these areas.

The principal effects of this area being included within the Conservation Area are as follows:

1 The Council is under a duty to prepare proposals to ensure the preservation or enhancement of the area.

2 Consent must be obtained from the Council for the demolition of any building in the area.

3 Special publicity must be given to planning applications for development in the area.

4 In carrying out any functions under the planning Acts (and, in particular, in determining applications for planning permission and listed building consent), the Council and the Secretary of State are required to take into account the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the area.

5 Six weeks-notice must be given to the Council before works are carried out to any tree in the area.

Schedule

The boundary of the conservation area includes:

•     The area bounded by Slack Lane, Raven Lane and Church  Lane, including the following buildings: Harwood Cottage, Kirk Lea, Felkirk Barn, Kirk View, 2 and 3 Felkirk Cottages, Felkirk House, The Church of St Peter and associated School Room;

•     Field to the north of Church Lane up to the track which runs  west-east through the field and including Cawker Wood;

•     A section of Kirkgate Lane, up to and including Hodroyd  House;

•     A section of High Well Hill Lane, up to the southern  boundary of the former High Well School, including the following buildings: Hodroyd Cottage, Hodroyd Hall and Hodroyd Farm.

•     The field to the southwest of Hodroyd Hall, bounded by  High Well Hill Lane and Kirkgate Lane.

•     The field to the north of High Well Hill Lane, corresponding  to the boundary of the Scheduled Monument of Deserted Medieval Village of Hodroyd, Felkirk and including a section of the former mineral waggonway.

HORBURY CONSERVATION AREA

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN under the provisions of the 1990 Act that The Council of the City of Wakefield has determined that the areas described in the Schedule to this Notice are of special architectural or historic interest, and that it is desirable to preserve or enhance their character or appearance.

It has accordingly AMENDED the Horbury Conservation Area, so as to include these areas and omit other areas that are not of special interest.

The principal effects of this area being included within the Conservation Area are as follows:

1 The Council is under a duty to prepare proposals to ensure the preservation or enhancement of the area.

2 Consent must be obtained from the Council for the demolition of any building in the area.

3 Special publicity must be given to planning applications for development in the area.

4 In carrying out any functions under the planning Acts (and, in particular, in determining applications for planning permission and listed building consent), the Council and the Secretary of State are required to take into account the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the area.

5 Six weeks-notice must be given to the Council before works are carried out to any tree in the area.

Schedule

The current boundary is extended to include;

•     The boundary is extended on its northern side to include  nos. 15, 17 and 18- 24 (even) Northgate;

•     The boundary is extended on its north-western side to  include nos. 1,2 and 4 St Leonards Yard. The extension also includes the northern side of Tithe Barn Street from no.1 to no. 31a, and the southern side of Tithe Barn Street from the former Westfield Congregational Church to no. 12. This includes nos. 1-22 Bank Street and the north side of Westfield Road and extends to include nos. 1-7 Manor Road Workspace and Depot, Horbury Library,

Old Town Hall and the Memorial Park. Nos 9-17 (odd) Westfield Road, 2-4 (even) Jenkyn Road and 28 Co-operative Street are also included;

•     The boundary is extended on its southern side to include a  line of trees on the northern boundary of Horbury St Peters & Clifton CE Primary School, nos. 4-8 (even) Lydgate Villas, and the car park to the rear of nos. 7-21 High Street. Nos. 1,

1a, 3 and 5a High St and no. 35 Peel Street are also included;

•     The boundary is extended on its eastern side to include  nos. 2 to 36 (even) and nos. 1-45a (odd) Cluntergate, as well as nos. 64 and 66 Cluntergate, no. 12 Stringer Lane, and nos. 1-11 (odd), 2-6 (even), and 10 Dawson Hill Yard. Its also includes nos. 2-24 (even) New Road and No. 3 Walker Lane.

The Conservation Area map and the Character Appraisal and Management Plan for the Horbury Conservation Area are available for inspection on the Council’s website or by request from devcontrol@wakefield.gov.uk

OSSETT CONSERVATION AREA

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN under the provisions of the 1990 Act that The Council of the City of Wakefield has determined that the areas described in the Schedule to this Notice are of special architectural or historic interest, and that it is desirable to preserve or enhance their character or appearance.

It has accordingly AMENDED the Ossett Conservation Area, so as to include these areas and omit other areas that are not of special interest.

The principal effects of this area being included within the Conservation Area are as follows:

1 The Council is under a duty to prepare proposals to ensure the preservation or enhancement of the area.

2 Consent must be obtained from the Council for the demolition of any building in the area.

3 Special publicity must be given to planning applications for development in the area.

4 In carrying out any functions under the planning Acts (and, in particular, in determining applications for planning permission and listed building consent), the Council and the Secretary of State are required to take into account the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the area.

Schedule

The current boundary is extended to include;

•     The boundary is extended on its north western side, following  the northern side of Wesley Street to the north-west as far as, and including, 91 Wesley Street (Bourne Villa). The extension includes the terrace at nos. 1-7 Horton Street, with the rear boundary line drawn around and including the back lane serving nos. 65-91 Wesley Street

•     The boundary is extended on its western side to include the  area of land to the rear of nos. 34-36 Wesley Street (Wesley House), which adjoins the north-western terminus of Dearden Street

•     The boundary is extended on its south-western side to  include the Pinfold, which is south-east of the junction of Headlands Road and West Wells Road

•     The boundary is extended on its south-eastern side to  include Station Road Bridge and the area of open green space between Station Road and New Street

The current boundary is reduced to exclude;

•     The boundary is reduced on its north western side,  removing the area of land between 25 Wesley Street and the western boundary of Dundalk Court. The amended boundary is drawn around and including the stone boundary wall to Wesley Street

WOOD STREET (WAKEFIELD) CONSERVATION AREA

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN under the provisions of the 1990 Act that The Council of the City of Wakefield has determined that the areas described in the Schedule to this Notice are of special architectural or historic interest, and that it is desirable to preserve or enhance their character or appearance.

It has accordingly AMENDED the Wood Street (Wakefield) Conservation Area, so as to include these areas and omit other areas that are not of special interest.

The principal effects of this area being included within the Conservation Area are as follows:

1 The Council is under a duty to prepare proposals to ensure the preservation or enhancement of the area.

2 Consent must be obtained from the Council for the demolition of any building in the area.

3 Special publicity must be given to planning applications for development in the area.

4 In carrying out any functions under the planning Acts (and, in particular, in determining applications for planning permission and listed building consent), the Council and the Secretary of State are required to take into account the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the area.

The current boundary is extended to include;

•     Numbers 2-8 (evens) Cross Street

•     Numbers 43-71 (odds) Northgate

•     The section of Gills Yard including numbers 1-3 (odds)  Gills Yard and 12-22 (evens) Gills Yard, as well as a parcel of land to the north of number 22 Gills Yard.

The current boundary is reduced to exclude:

•     Numbers 1-15 (odds) Cross Street

•     A section of the car park to the rear of 1-15 Cross Street  and 25-37 Northgate

•     A section of the lane to the rear of Cliff Parade where it  meets Burton Street, which currently partly cuts through the Wakefield One building
