RATE OF FARES FOR LICENSED HACKNEY CARRIAGES
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Epsom and Ewell Borough Council in pursuance of section 65 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 intend to bring into operation a revised maximum rate of fares for Hackney Carriages operating within the Borough of Epsom and Ewell commencing on 25 April 2026.
The changes are to keep the maximum fare consistent with those set by Transport for London for their licensed Hackney Carriages, specifically;–
(a) increasing the minimum fare by 20 pence to £4.40;
(b) increasing Tariffs 1, 2 and 3 by 2.88 per cent;
(c) keeping the Tariff 4 rates the same as the Tariff 2 rates; and
(d) introducing a £6.00 London City Airport drop-off extra charge, each as described in this paper
A copy of the notice and proposed rates may be inspected at the Town Hall, The Parade, Epsom, Surrey during normal office hours from the date of this publication of this notice until the end of the objection period. Objections to the proposed fares together with the grounds on which they are made must be sent in writing either to Licensing at the Town Hall address or to licensing@epsom-ewell.gov.uk by 24 April 2026.
If no objection to the variation duly made within the objection period, or if all objections so made are withdrawn, the variation shall come into operation on 25 April 2026.
Where objections are received and not withdrawn, the objections will be given due consideration and the council will decide whether to implement the proposed fees with or without modification, by no later than 24 June 2026.
