Braintree - Proposed increase to Hackney Carriage and Private Hire licence fees
What is happening?

LICENCE FEES IN RESPECT OF HACKNEY CARRIAGES, PRIVATE HIRE VEHICLES AND PRIVATE HIRE OPERATORS
Section 70 Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976
TAKE NOTICE that with effect from 1 April 2026 Braintree District Council propose (a) that the fee chargeable for the grant of a vehicle licence in respect of licensed Hackney Carriages operating within the Braintree Council district shall be increased to £351 per annum (b) the fee chargeable for the grant of a vehicle licence in respect of licensed Private Hire Vehicles operating within the Braintree Council district shall be increased to £250 per annum (c) that the fee chargeable for the issue of a Private Hire Operator’s Licence shall be increased to £500 per 5 year period (d) the fee for the inspection of either a Hackney Carriage or Private Hire Vehicle will remain the same at £42 and will be paid directly to the relevant designated vehicle testing centre. Any person wishing to object to the above proposed fees should submit details of their objection in writing within 28 days from the date of this Notice to Licensing, Braintree District Council, Causeway House, Bocking End, Braintree, Essex, CM7 9HB or e-mail to: licensing@braintree.gov.uk
In accordance with Section 70(3)(b) of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 a copy of this Notice has been deposited at the address above and is open to public inspection.
LICENCE FEES IN RESPECT OF HACKNEY CARRIAGE DRIVERS, PRIVATE HIRE DRIVERS AND DUAL HACKNEY CARRIAGE AND PRIVATE HIRE DRIVERS
SECTION 53(2) Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976
TAKE NOTICE that with effect from 1 April 2026 Braintree District Council propose (a) that the fee chargeable for the grant of a driver licence in respect of licensed Hackney Carriages and Private Hire Vehicles or a combination of both operating within the Braintree Council district shall be increased to £254 per 3 year period, £165 per 2 year period and £110 per 1 year period and (b) the fee for an applicant to sit the Council’s driver knowledge test will be decreased to £42.
Any person wishing to object to the above proposed fees should submit details of their objection in writing within 28 days from the date of this Notice to Licensing, Braintree District Council, Causeway House, Bocking End, Braintree, Essex, CM7 9HB or e-mail to: licensing@braintree.gov.uk
