North Tyneside - Proposal To Merge Greenfields Primary School And Hazlewood Primary School

STATUTORY NOTICE
PROPOSAL TO MERGE GREENFIELDS
PRIMARY SCHOOL AND HAZLEWOOD PRIMARY SCHOOL

Notice is given in accordance with section 15(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 and regulation 12 of the School Organisation (Establishment and Discontinuance of Schools) Regulations 2013 that North Tyneside Council, Quadrant East, Cobalt Business Park, The Silverlink North, North Tyneside, NE27 0BY is proposing to merge Greenfields Primary School, Taylor Ave, Newcastle upon Tyne NE13 6NA and Hazlewood Primary School, Canterbury Way, Wideopen NE13 6JJ on 31 August 2028.

The proposal is to close Hazlewood Primary School (392/2084) and enlarge Greenfields Primary School (392/2083) to accommodate the combined pupils.

The merged school would retain the original Greenfields Primary School Department for Education school number (392/2083) and be based on the Greenfields Primary School site.
Greenfields Primary School and Hazlewood Primary School are both Foundation Trust schools.

A Foundation Trust School is a local authority maintained school which is supported by a charitable Trust, The North Tyneside Learning Trust.
Under section 15 of the Education and Inspections Act 2006, the closure of Hazlewood Primary School is considered necessary on the basis that it is to be amalgamated with another school (Greenfields Primary School).
Within four weeks from the date of publication of this proposal, any person may object to or make comments on the proposal on the Our North Tyneside Voice website https://haveyoursay.northtyneside.gov.uk, or by post to Education Review, North Tyneside Council, Quadrant East, Cobalt Business Park, The Silverlink North, North Tyneside, NE27 0BY.

The deadline for receipt of responses to the proposal and the end of the representation period is 5pm on 1 January 2026. The Authority’s Cabinet will meet after the end of the representation period, on 12 January 2026, to take the final decision on whether to close Hazlewood Primary School.
