Statutory Notice: Changes to Stanford Infant and Stanford Junior Schools
Notice is given in accordance with the Education and Inspections Act 2006, (“the Act”) as amended, that Brighton & Hove City Council, Hove Town Hall, Norton Road, Hove, East Sussex BN3 3BQ intends to make the following changes:
Part 1: Discontinuation of Stanford Junior School so that an all through primary school can be established
In accordance with section 15(1) of the Act to close Stanford Junior School, Stanford Road, Brighton, BN1 5PR from 1st September 2026.
This proposal is linked to the prescribed alteration set out in Part 2, to create an all through primary school with an extended age range of 4 to 11 (see Part 2 of this notice). Pupils attending Stanford Junior School at the time of closure will be offered places at Stanford Primary School, which, subject to Part 2, will change its age range and enlarge its capacity, becoming an all through primary school.
Part 2: Prescribed changes to Stanford Infant School so that it becomes an all through primary school operating across both existing sites: Highcroft Villas, Brighton, BN1 5PS and Stanford Road, Brighton, BN1 5PR with effect from 1st September 2026.
In accordance with section 19(1) of the Act to make a prescribed alteration to Stanford Infant School, Highcroft Villas, Brighton, BN1 5PS from 1st September 2026 by changing the age range of the school by a year or more.
The current age range of the school is 4 to 7. The Local Authority proposes to extend the age range of the school to create an all-through primary school that will cater for pupils from age 4 to age 11. The current capacity of the infant school is 180. The proposed capacity of the primary school will be 564. It is proposed that the admission number for the school will be 60. It is proposed that the increase in capacity will be achieved by utilising both existing sites.
