Broughton Moor, Maryport – Public Path Diversion Order
What is happening?
HIGHWAYS ACT 1980 AND WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (FOOTPATH NOS 219005 PARISH OF BROUGHTON MOOR AND 244043 PARISH OF MARYPORT)
PUBLIC PATH DIVERSION AND DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT MODIFICATION ORDER 2024
On the 18 November 2025 Cumberland Council confirmed the above order made under Section 119 of the Highways Act 1980 and Section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
The effect of the order as confirmed is to divert the whole width of that length of public footpath no 219005 at Woodside Farm in the parish of Broughton Moor from grid reference 304788 534340 northwards along track for about 178 metres to grid reference 304703 534496; to run from grid reference 304796 534344 northwards along field edge for about 180 metres to grid reference 304710 534502; and
the whole width of that length of public footpath no 244043 at Woodside Farm in the parish of Maryport from grid reference 304627 534695 southwards along track for about 214 metres to grid reference 304703 534496; to run from 304627 534695 southwards along field edge for about 216 metres to grid reference 304710 534502.
The width of the new path will be 1.8 metres.

The Order comes into force on 20 November 2025, but if a person aggrieved by the order wants to question its validity, or that of any provision contained in it, on the ground that it is not within the powers of the Highways Act 1980, as amended, or on the ground that any requirement of the Act, as amended, or of any regulation made under the Act has not been complied with in relation to the order, he or she may, under paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 to the Act as applied by paragraph 5 of Schedule 6 to the Act, within 6 weeks from 20 November 2025 make an application to the High Court.
