What is happening?

STATUTORY NOTICE

Proposed amalgamation of Odessa Infant and St. James’ CoE Junior Schools

Part 1

Notice is hereby given, in accordance with Section 19 (1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 that the London Borough of Newham and the Diocese of Chelmsford intends to make the following prescribed alterations to St. James’CoE Junior School from 1 September 2026.

(a) To lower the age range of the school to 3 -11 years, thereby becoming a primary school.

(b) The enlargement of the premises of the school

Part 2

Notice is given in accordance with section 15(1) of the Education Inspections Act 2006 that the London Borough of Newham, 1000 Dockside Road, London, E16 2QU intends to discontinue the following school on 31 August 2026:

Odessa Infant School, Wellington Road, Forest Gate E7 9BY

It is proposed that all pupils attending Odessa Infant School at the time of its closure and St. James’CoE Junior School will automatically transfer onto the roll of the enlarged Primary School (See Part 1). As no pupils are being displaced and no additional pupils added, it is not expected that the closure of the aforementioned school will have a negative impact upon any local schools.

Notes

  1. Following the amalgamation of the schools, the number of 30 full time equivalent pupil places in the nursery will remain the same in the enlarged Primary School.

  2. The proposals within this notice are linked and therefore reliant on each other.

  3. The single primary school will retain the Ofsted rating of the Junior school.
