NOTICE OF PUBLIC LOCAL INQUIRY

NOTICE FOR REGISTRATION OF LAND AS A TOWN OR VILLAGE GREEN – LAND AT “THE FIELDS” BEING LAND BETWEEN SOUTHLANDS, THE LEAZES AND QUEEN ELIZABETH HIGH SCHOOL, WEST HEXHAM

Notice of a non-statutory Public Inquiry in relation to an objection to an application for the registration of land claimed to have qualified for registration as a Town or Village Green.

In the matter of Application 24145 for the registration as a new Town or Village Green at “The Fields” – Land between Southlands, The Leazes and Queen Elizabeth High School, West Hexham, the Independent Inspector, Mr Alan Evans, will attend at:

Wentworth Leisure Centre, Wentworth Place, Hexham, NE46 3PD

Commencing on Monday 15 December 2025 at 10.00 am and continuing if necessary on Tuesday 16, Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 December 2025.

To hold the local Inquiry.

Northumberland County Council (“the Council”) have determined that a non-statutory Public Inquiry should be held to consider an objection to the Application which has been made to the Commons Registration Authority, Northumberland County Council, County Hall, Morpeth, Northumberland, NE61 2EF by West Hexham Village Green Committee (“the Applicant”) under section 15(1) of the Commons Act 2006 and in accordance with the Commons (Registration of Town or Village Greens) (Interim Arrangements) (England) Regulations 2007 for inclusion in the Register of Town or Village Greens of the land described in the Schedule hereto, which it is claimed has qualified for registration as a Town or Village Green by virtue of the use of the said land for the purposes of lawful sports and pastimes “as of right” and without challenge by the landowner for a period of over 20 years.

Description of the land claimed to have qualified for registration as a town or village green:

Land as described in the application as “The Fields” – Land between Southlands, The Leazes and Queen Elizabeth High School, West Hexham.

This land comprising of approximately 81,793 square metres (20.2 acres) or thereabouts is:

– registered at HM Land Registry under title number: ND160789 being Land on the north and south sides of Shaws Lane, Hexham, and

– has an Ordnance Survey Grid Reference of which is centred on 391983 563983 situated at the north of Shaws Lane, Hexham.
