PUBLIC NOTICE Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Fees

What is happening?

The Borough Council of Newcastle-under-Lyme proposes
to increase fees for the Licensing of Hackney Carriages
and Private Hire Vehicles, Drivers and Operators from 1st
April 2026 to 31 st March 2027 as follows:
Private Hire Operators Licence (upto 5 years)
Add/Remove Director £49.00
Director/Licence holder - Change of home address £19.00
Hackney Carriages and Private Hire Vehicle (upto 1 year)
HCV application fee £202.00
PHV application fee £188.00
Transfer of vehicle £49.00
Vehicle safety test (New, renewal & +10yrs) £85.00
Failure to attend for vehicle test £84.00
Retest £35.00
Spot check £24.00
Replacement plate carrier - front £12.00
Replacement vehicle plate - front £10.00
Replacement vehicle sticker signage £7.00
Replacement internal plate £9.00
Change of vehicle registration or colour £56.00
Change of Name/Address £49.00
PHV change of base £19.00
Objections to these increases may be made at any time
within the period of 28 days from the date of the first
publication of this notice and should be made in writing to
the Licensing Department, Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough
Council, Castle House, Barracks Road, Newcastle-underLyme, Staffordshire, ST5 1BL or via email to licensing@
newcastle-staffs.gov.uk
Subject to no objections being received, the proposed
increases will come into force on 1 st April 2026.
The Council also propose to amend the fees of associated
licences as detailed below:
Replacement badge £17.00
Reissue/replacement badge (with amended details) £34.00
Medical exemption certificates £17.00
Change of name (driver) £23.00
Change of address (driver) £19.00
Exemption Request (all licence types) £54.00
Application Support appointment (all licence types) £19.00
Copy/Replacement licence £9.00
All other fees, including new and renewal driver and
operator applications, are proposed to stay the same as the
2025-26 charges or reduced.
A copy of this notice has been placed on deposit and may
be seen free of charge at the Castle House, Barracks
Road, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, ST5 1BL and
shall at all reasonable hours be open to public inspection
without payment.
