Notice of the grant of drought permits for the South West Yorkshire area catchments

What is happening?

Following an application by Yorkshire Water Services Limited to the Environment Agency for drought permits in the South West Yorkshire area under section 79A of the Water Resources Act 1991 (as amended), on 3 September 2025, the drought permits were granted by the Environment Agency on 24th September 2025 and 3rd October 2025 and will apply for a period of 6 months from the date of issue. The drought permits authorise the reduction of compensation releases from the following reservoirs, along with one maintained flow and one prescribed flow, located around the Wakefield, Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Halifax and Hebden Bridge area.

• Butterley Reservoir
• Gorple Lower Reservoir
• River Colne Maintained Flow
• Scammonden Water
(Bradshaw Clough)
• Turvin Clough Prescribed Flow

• Warley Moor Reservoir
• Withens Clough
• Blackmoorfoot Reservoir
(Hoyle House Clough)
• Brownhill Reservoir
• Digley Reservoir
• Ogden Reservoir
• Ryburn Reservoir
• Scammonden Water
(Black Brook)
• Walshaw Dean Lower Reservoir
• Widdop Reservoir 

Anyone may inspect the permits as granted, free of charge, during normal working hours at: Yorkshire Water, Western House, Halifax Road, Bradford, BD6 2SZ. Copies of the permits and supporting documentation are also available to view on the Yorkshire Water website www.yorkshirewater.com/droughtpermits
