North Dairy Farm, Hazelbury Bryan - Application for Consent to Replace Electricity Tower
What is happening?
Aureos Energy Limited (on behalf of Southern Electric Power Distribution) tower replacement located in Dorset, DT2 7EA.
The Electricity (Applications for Consent) Regulations 1990: Regulation 5 – Publication of Notice of Application for Consent under Section 37 of the Electricity Act 1989.
Proposal: Replacement of existing tower on existing 132kV Overhead Line (OHL), North Dairy Farm, Hazelbury Bryan, Dorset, DT2 7EA (NGR: ST72991 08322).
Background: Aureos, on behalf of Southern Electric Power Distribution (SEPD), has been requested by a customer to facilitate a point of connection (POC) for their proposed solar farm. The planning application for the solar farm (ref: P/VOC/2024/05918) was approved by Dorset Council in April 2021. The consented development includes the installation of ground-mounted photovoltaic solar arrays. As a statutory undertaker, SEPD is obligated under Section 16 of the Electricity Act 1989 to respond to customer requests and implement new infrastructure to ensure a reliable and efficient electricity supply. To support the solar farm Aureos is required to replace an existing lattice structure located on the 132kV OHL with a new steel tower. The new tower will be 20m east of the existing, which is 14.94m in height, and to be replaced by a tower of 17.10m, representing a 14.46% increase. As the new tower exceeds the 10% height threshold under the Electricity Act 1989, Section 37 consent is required from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).
Notice is hereby given that on w/c 6/10/25, Aureos, on behalf of SEPD, made an application under Section 37 of the Electricity Act 1989 for the consent of the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero to replace an existing lattice structure with a new steel tower.
