What is happening?
Notice of the grant of drought permits for the South Yorkshire area catchments
Following an application by Yorkshire Water Services Limited to the Environment Agency for drought permits in the South Yorkshire area under section 79A of the Water Resources Act 1991 (as amended), on 8 August 2025 the drought permits were granted by the Environment Agency on 1 September and 5th September and will apply for a period of 6 months from the date of issue. The drought permits authorise the reduction of compensation releases from the following reservoirs located around Holmfirth, Sheffield and Barnsley.
• Scout Dike Reservoir
• Underbank (Langsett) Reservoir
• Underbank (Midhope) Reservoir
• More Hall Reservoir
• Damflask Reservoir
• Rivelin Reservoir
• Dunford Bridge maintained flow (Winscar and Lower Windleden reservoirs)
Anyone may inspect the permits as granted, free of charge, during normal working hours at: Yorkshire Water, Western House, Halifax Road, Bradford, BD6 2SZ.
