What is happening?

EAST CAMBRIDGESHIRE DISTRICT COUNCIL

FIXING OF MAXIMUM FARES FOR HACKNEY CARRIAGES

IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 65 OF THE

LOCAL GOVERNMENT (MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS) ACT 1976

Notice is hereby given that East Cambridgeshire District Council intends to vary the rates of fares in accordance with the provisions of section 65 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976. The proposal is as follows:

(1) 7am to 9pm Mon – Sat£4.20£0.25£0.40
(2) 9pm to 7am Mon – Sat and Sunday 7am until 7am Monday and Bank Holidays (excl. Christmas & New Year)£6.20£0.25£0.40
(3) 9pm Christmas Eve to 7am 27th December and 9pm New Year’s Eve to 7am 2nd January£8.00£0.35£0.40
Each passenger in excess of one (persons under the age of 18, and person(s) accompanying a passenger who requires assistance due to their physical or mental health shall not be counted)

£0.25 per person, per trip

Soiling charge

Not to exceed £150

Any objections to the proposed table of fares should be sent in writing to the Licensing Manager, East Cambridgeshire District Council, The Grange, Ely, CB7 4EE, or by email to licensing@eastcambs.gov.uk by midnight on Friday 3 October 2025. A copy of this notice has been deposited at the Council Offices and is available for inspection during office hours until Friday 3 October 2025.

If no objections are received by the date specified above, or if objections so made are withdrawn, the proposed amendments shall come into operation on Saturday 4 October 2025. If any objections are made, the Council will consider these objections on Wednesday 19 November 2025, and if deemed appropriate any amendment in the fares will come into force on a date to be determined by the Council, which shall be no later than Friday 3 December 2025.
