Chiltern Main Line, Statutory Public Consultation For Strategic Rail Freight Interchange Proposal
What is happening?
OxSRFI Statutory Public Consultation from 23rd September 2025
Oxfordshire Railfreight Limited are proposing a new Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI) known as ‘OxSRFI’ on land located adjacent to the Chiltern Main Line Railway line, south west of Junction 10 of the M40 motorway, and east of the former Upper Heyford Air Base.
The proposals respond directly to updated Government policy in the ‘National Policy Statement for National Networks’ which seeks to address a compelling need for an expanded network of SRFIs throughout the country, and to support the shift of freight from road to rail.
Stage 2 (statutory) Consultation Process
To ensure local people are aware of the draft proposals Oxfordshire Railfreight Limited are holding a statutory consultation process from Tuesday 23rd September for 6-weeks until Tuesday 4th November 2025. This will include holding four public consultation exhibitions.
While some technical work is still being finalised, this will provide a chance to see and comment on the draft proposals and information about the future application, and to discuss the proposals with members of the project team.
Information
Further information about the proposed development, including draft preliminary environmental information in the form of Environmental Statement Chapters, Plans, and Display Boards to be shown at the exhibitions, will be made available via the project website from Tuesday 23rd September 2025 at: www.oxsrfi.co.uk
