What is happening?

ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Land Drainage Improvement Works (Amended) Regulations 1999 SI 1999/1783
BELL WEIR REFURBISHMENT
The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out improvement and refurbishment works to Bell Weir located on the River Thames near Egham, Surrey: National Grid Reference TQ 01651 72142).
The Environment Agency will implement works to maintain and improve safety aspects relating to the use and operation of the existing weir, and to extend the weir’s operational life. The works include replacement of the existing radial gates, associated gate headworks, replacement of the existing walkway across the main weir and its supporting steelwork. In addition, a new fish pass and riverbed rock armour will be installed.
There will be two temporary work compounds to service the works.
The main compound will be located approximately 1km upstream of the weir at Runnymede Pleasure Ground. (National Grid Reference: TQ0063972364). An additional satellite compound will be located adjacent to the Bell Weir structure on the South bank. National Grid Reference: (TQ0161072102).
The Environment Agency considers that the improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an Environmental Statement in respect of them. We have produced a non-statutory Environmental Report, which lays out how we intend to manage the environmental impacts on site. A copy is available on request. With reference to Schedule 2 of the Environmental Impact Assessment (Land Drainage Improvement Works) Regulations 1999 (as amended), as well as the characteristics of the improvement works, the location of the improvement works and the type and characteristics of the potential impact. It is considered that the proposed works will not have a significant effect on the environment.
Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so in writing to the address below, within 30 days of the date of publication of this notice.
