COMPULSORY PURCHASE OF LAND AT CRANFORD STREET, SMETHWICK
1. Notice is hereby given that the Borough Council of Sandwell has made the Borough Council of Sandwell (Cranford Street, Smethwick) Compulsory Purchase Order 2025 under section 226(1)(a) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. It is about to submit this order to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government for confirmation, and if confirmed, the order will authorise the Borough Council of Sandwell to purchase compulsorily the land described below for the purpose of facilitating the carrying out of development, redevelopment or improvement of land consisting of a scheme including demolition and other works, and the erection of residential and community uses, as well as new infrastructure, public realm and access.
2. A copy of the order and of the accompanying map may be seen at all reasonable hours at the Borough Council of Sandwell, Council House, Freeth Street, Oldbury, West Midlands, B69 3DE (Monday to Friday). A copy of the order and map may be viewed online at http://www.sandwell.gov.uk/CranfordStreetCPO
3. Any objection to the order must be made in writing to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, Planning Casework Unit, 23 Stephenson Street, Birmingham B2 4BH or by email to pcu@communities.gov.uk before 12 September 2025 and should state the title of the order, the grounds of objection and the objector’s address and interests in the land.
4. In submitting an objection it should be noted that the personal data and correspondence relating to any objection will be passed to the Borough Council of Sandwell in order that they can contact the objector directly to address the issues raised. If any person does not wish personal data to be forwarded to the Borough Council of Sandwell, they should state why when submitting the objection and the Secretary of State will copy the representations to the Borough Council of Sandwell with the name and address removed and if there is to be a local Public Inquiry, the representations will be seen by the Inspector who may give them less weight as a result.
DESCRIPTION OF LAND
The land comprises 1.79 hectares of land on the south side of Cranford Street, Smethwick and is bounded by Cranford Street to the north and the Cape Arm canal to the west and south and is located within the Borough Council of Sandwell and shown shaded pink on the order map.
