NOTICE OF CONFIRMATION OF A MODIFICATION ORDER
SECTION 53 OF THE WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981
DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT OF PUBLIC RIGHTS OF WAY
FOR THE COUNTY OF NORTHUMBERLAND
DEFINITIVE MAP MODIFICATION ORDER (NO 15) 2024

Definitive Map Modification Order (No 15) 2024
The above Order, made on 13th November 2024, was confirmed on 6th August 2025, and will modify the definitive map and statement for the area by:-
Restricted Byway/FP No 27 & FP 26 (Parish of Greenhead)
Upgrading thereto to restricted byway status all of the remaining part of Restricted Byway No. 27, east of existing Public Footpath No 26, from a point 65 metres south of Benskill (OS. Grid Ref NY 7103 6908), in a general north-easterly direction for a distance of 180 metres to the junction between existing Public Footpaths Nos 26 and 27, east of Benskill (OS. Grid Ref NY 7104 7010).
And upgrading thereto to restricted byway status, all of existing Public Footpath No 27, from the path’s existing junction with Footpath No 26, 435 metres north-east of Wall Shield (OS. Grid Ref NY 7143 7010), in a general easterly direction for a distance of 370 metres, to join all/lead Restricted Byway No 1 in the Parish of Melkridge, 750 metres north-east of Wall Shield (NY 7177 7014).

Upgrading thereto to restricted byway status, all of existing Public Footpath No 1, from alleged Restricted Byway No 27 in the Parish of Greenhead, 750 metres north-east of Wall Shield (OS Grid Ref NY 7177 7014), in a general north-easterly direction for a distance of 370 metres, to join the U7041 (Edges Green – Grindon Green road), 1.5 metres west of Ridley Stones (NY 7237 7052).
These details are as shown on the Order map. A copy of the Order and the Order map have been sent to the Council Offices of Hexham Library, Queens Hall, Hexham, and those at the Old Arms Office, Market Place, Morpeth, Northumberland, NE61 2EF during normal working hours. The Order takes effect from the 6th August 2025 but if a person aggrieved by the Order wants to question its validity, or that of any provision included in it, on the ground that it is not within the powers of the Act or any requirement of the Act has not been complied with in relation to the Order, he or she may, within six weeks from 14th August 2025 make an application to the High Court.
