ENVIRONMENT AGENCY

ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT

Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Land Drainage Improvement Works (Amended) Regulations 1999 SI 1999/1783

CLEVEDON TO KINGSTON SEYMOUR SEAWALL – REVETMENT STRENGTHENING

The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out essential repairs to an existing tidal flood defence between Clevedon and Kingston Seymour.

Grid Reference: ST38612 69498 to ST38568 69305

The proposed 200m repair is required due to the erosion on the Severn Estuary foreshore adjacent to raised defences. The repairs will require the temporary closure of a section of the permissive footpath ‘Pier to Pier Way (33)’ to allow construction teams to safely access and complete strengthening using rock armour delivered by road from September 2025.

The Environment Agency considers that installing the rock armour is not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of them. The main reason for not completing an environmental statement is following completion of a ‘preliminary ecological appraisal report’ ascertaining the low likelihood of encountering significant environmental receptors. The work will slow the deterioration of localised sections of the raised defences on the frontage for up to a 15-year period. Preliminary ecology reports of the Clevedon raised defences are made available at local Environment Agency Offices (Rivers House, East Quay, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 4YS) during normal office hours available. Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the address specified below, within 30 days of the date of publication of this notice.
