PART 3 - STREET TRADING
Notice of intention to pass a Resolution on Street Trading and the designation of Consent and Prohibited Streets in the district.
Notice is hereby given that the Council’s Licensing Committee intends to pass a Resolution under Paragraph 2 Schedule 4 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982, subject to consultation responses, at its meeting in July 2025.
The terms of the draft resolution are as follows:
1. that all previous Resolutions of the Council made pursuant to Paragraph 2 of Schedule 4 to the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 (“the Act”) are hereby revoked;
2. that Consents for a Consent Street will only be granted for community events.
3. that all streets within the district of East Suffolk, are undesignated save for the following to be designated as Consent Streets and Prohibited Streets (the entire length, both sides) under Paragraph 2 of Schedule 4 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982:
Consent Street
Halesworth – Bridge Street, Thoroughfare, Market Place
Southwold – High Street
Prohibited Street
All of the A12 within the East Suffolk district, including service roads and lay-bys
excluding the lay-by at Frostenden, all of the A146 within the East Suffolk district, including service roads and lay-bys, all of the A1117 within the East Suffolk district, including service roads and lay-bys, all parts of car parks owned and/or operated by East Suffolk Council, whilst being operated as public car parks, all of the B1375, within the East Suffolk district including service roads and lay-bys.
Halesworth – London Road, Norwich Road, Saxons Way
Southwold – Blackshore Road, East Cliff, East Green, East Street, Ferry Road, Gardner Road, Godyll Road, Gun Hill, Market Place, North Parade, Parts of the cliff top path from junction with North Parade to junction with Gun Hill including promenade, Pier Avenue, Pinkneys Lane, Queens Road/ Constitution Hill, Queens Street, St James Green, Trinity Street, York Road
Once made, the resolution will allow the District Council to control street trading in these Consent and Prohibited streets, using powers set out in the 1982 Act.
Representations relating to the proposed resolution may be made in writing to the Council at the address below no later than 29 August 2025.
