ENVIRONMENT AGENCY
ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE
AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Land Drainage Improvement Works (Amended) Regulations 1999 SI 1999/1783
St Mary’s Bridge Wall Refurbishment Project The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out improvement works to sections of the flood defences on the River Don in Doncaster between Power Station Road
(NGR SE566037) and St Mary’s Bridge (NGR SE567038),
a distance of 208 metres. The proposed improvement works will involve the following:
• installation of 42 metres of steel sheet piles within the existing earth embankment,
• installation of 60 metres of steel sheet piles with a concrete capping beam and concrete facing where sheet piles are exposed above ground level,
• repairs to cracks on the remaining length of concrete wall.
The proposed improvement works will help to maintain flood alleviation assets on the River Don and will provide an improved standard of flood protection, thereby reducing the risk of flooding to commercial and residential properties.
The Environment Agency considers that the improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of them. This determination has considered the environmental sensitivity of geographical areas likely to be
affected by improvement works, the overall nature and limited scale of the works, and the availability of appropriate avoidance and mitigation measures (that are both routine and standard in nature, and which will be incorporated into the works through the production of an Environmental Action Plan.
The works are deemed low risk due to the size and scale.
A Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) and a Non-Statutory Environmental Report has been produced which summarises the works and concludes no likely significant environmental effects. Copies of the reports may be available from the Project Manager through the contact details below.
Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the address specified below, within 30 days of the date of publication of this notice.
