What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (PARISH OF ST BEES)

PUBLIC PATH CREATION AND DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT

MODIFICATION ORDER 2025

The above named Order made on 3 June 2025 under Section 26 of the Highways Act 1980 and Section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 will create a new section of public footpath no 423020 in the parish of St Bees from grid reference 296198 511781 at U4124 westwards for about 43 metres alongside car park to Grid Reference 296157 511788; then southwestwards for about 26 metres to Grid Reference 296135 511775; then northwards for about 39 metres to Grid Reference 296102 511795; then westwards and southwestwards for about 67 metres alongside the play area to Grid Reference 296037 511792; then continuing southwestwards for further 12 metres towards St Bees Promenade; then turning northwestswards at Grid Reference 296025 511788 for about 128 metres to meet public footpath no 422013 at Grid Reference 295943 511878. The width of the new path will vary from 1.2 metres to 3 metres.

A copy of the Order and map may be inspected free of charge at Whitehaven Library, Lowther Street, Whitehaven and the office of the Countryside Access Team, The Parkhouse Building, Kingmoor Business Park, Carlisle CA6 4SJ by appointment only (ref 5.1.506). Details of the Order are available to view on the Council’s website and copies of the Order may be purchased at a cost of £2 per A4 sheet and £3 per A3 sheet. Alternatively contact countryside.access@cumberland.gov.uk for further information.

Any supporting statements or objections with respect to the Order can be sent in writing to the Countryside Access Team, (by post or email as addresses above) to be received not later than 9 July 2025 and should state the grounds on which they are made.

If no objections are duly made or if any so made are withdrawn the Cumberland Council may confirm the Order as an unopposed Order. If the Order is submitted to the Secretary of State any objections which have not been withdrawn will be submitted with the Order.
