COMPULSORY PURCHASE ORDER 2025
COMPULSORY PURCHASE OF LAND AT THE HARRIOTT HOUSE, APSLEY HOUSE AND PATTISON HOUSE ESTATE
1. Notice is hereby given that the London Borough of Tower Hamlets has made the London Borough of Tower Hamlets (Harriott House, Apsley House, Pattison House) Compulsory Purchase Order 2025 under section 226(1)(a) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. It is about to submit this order to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government for confirmation, and if confirmed, the order will authorise the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to purchase compulsorily the land described below for the purpose of facilitating the carrying out of development, redevelopment or improvement of land consisting of a scheme including demolition and other works, and the erection of residential and community uses, as well as new infrastructure, public realm and access.
2. A copy of the order and of the accompanying map may be seen at all reasonable hours at Tower Hamlets Council, Town Hall, 160 Whitechapel Road, London E1 1BJ (Monday to Friday). A redacted copy of the order and map may be viewed online at https://talk.towerhamlets.gov.uk/hap and https://www.towerhamlets.gov.uk/lgnl/council_and_democracy/consultations/Housingconsultations/HAP_Houses.aspx. Redacted electronic or hard copies can also be provided on request. 3. Any objection to the order must be made in writing to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, Planning Casework Unit, 23 Stephenson Street, Birmingham B2 4BH or by email to pcu@communities.gov.uk before 16 March 2025 and should state the title of the order, the grounds of objection and the objector’s address and interests in the land.
DESCRIPTION OF LAND
The land and buildings known as Harriott House, Apsley House and Pattison House (‘the housing estate’), a community building (being the Redcoat Community Centre and Mosque), an electricity substation and land at the north-west corner of the housing estate and which are bounded by Stepney Way to the north, Jamaica Street to the west, Aylward Street to the south and Wellesley Street to the east, located within the Stepney Green Ward in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and shown shaded pink on the order map.
