What is happening?

MEMORIAL SAFETY TESTING
The District Council has a responsibility to undertake inspections assessing the stability of memorials to ensure the safety of visitors and staff within its cemeteries and closed churchyards where they have responsibility for grounds maintenance.
After 2nd June 2025 inspectors will be examining grave memorials within Moor Lane Aston on Trent, Etwall (part), Findern & Marston on Dove Cemeteries in line with the District Council’s Memorial Safety Policy which is available on the Council’s website.
Details of memorials that fail this safety inspection will be displayed on the Council’s website and efforts will be made to contact the owner of the Grant of Right of Burial to advise them of the steps they must take to make safe the memorial in line with industry standards. Any unsafe memorials may be temporarily supported with a wooden stake and banding and/or display a warning notice.
DO NOT attempt to touch or approach any of these unsafe memorials or tamper with the measures put in place.
It is expected that owners of unsafe memorials, when notified, will undertake the necessary remedial works to make them safe as soon as practically possible.
