What is happening?

PUBLIC NOTICE

Notice Pursuant to Regulation 16 of the Local Authorities (Members' Allowances) (England) Regulations 2003 that:

  1. On 27 February 2025, the London Borough of Harrow adopted a Members’ Allowances Scheme for the year from 1 April 2025 until 31 March 2026, the main features of which are:

(a) An annual basic allowance will be paid to each Councillor.

(b) An additional allowance will be paid to those Councillors who have special responsibilities and to the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor.

(c) Travel and subsistence expenses incurred in respect of approved duties (attendance at meetings, training, conferences, seminars and other non-political events as specified in the Scheme) undertaken outside the Borough boundaries may be claimed by Councillors, co-optees to formal Council committees and Independent Members of the Governance, Audit, Risk Management and Standards Committee, at the rates paid and on the conditions specified in the officer scheme for travel and subsistence allowances.

(d) Councillors with dependent relatives may claim the costs of requiring a hired-in alternative carer in respect of approved duties specified in the scheme, subject to a maximum of £3.00 per half hour and except where the carer is a member of the Councillor’s family.

(e) An annual allowance of £503 shall be paid to co-optees to formal Council Committees and Independent Members on the Governance, Audit, Risk Management and Standards Committee. Co-optees and independent members/persons are not Councillors.
