NOTICE OF COUNCIL TAX LEVY 2025/2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that, at a meeting held on 5 March 2025, the Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, in pursuance of the powers conferred upon it as a Charging Authority by Section 30(2) of the Local Government Finance Act 1992, approved and set the amounts of Council Tax for each area of the Borough and each category of dwelling as follows:-

Under section 11A of the Local Government Finance Act 1992, from 1st April 2025 the Council Tax discount applicable to certain properties will be: -

• 0% for unoccupied and substantially unfurnished properties which require or are undergoing major repair works to make them habitable or homes undergoing structural alterations.

• 100% discount for up to 1 month for properties that are unoccupied and substantially unfurnished. 0% discount will apply after this period.

Properties that have been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for 1 year or more will be charged a 100% premium. Properties that have been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for 5 years or more will be charged a 200% premium.

Properties that have been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for 10 years or more will be charged a 300% premium.

From 1 April 2025, if a property is not your main residence and is substantially furnished, you will be charged double the amount of Council Tax that you would normally pay. The second home premium will be levied at an additional 100% of the Council Tax charge, this applies to unoccupied properties (which are substantially furnished) and second homes (furnished properties that are not used as main residences).

Note: For the changes that relate to empty homes, the previous rule which stipulated that empty status cannot be interrupted by notice of short-term occupations for less than 6 weeks will continue to apply.
