What is happening?

HUNTINGDONSHIRE DISTRICT COUNCIL - COUNCIL TAX DEMAND 2025/26

At a council meeting held on 26 February 2025 in accordance with Section 30 of the Local Government Finance Act 1992, the following amounts were set for the financial year 2025/26. In accordance with Section 38 of that Act, the amounts of Council Tax payable in each area with effect from 01 April 2025 are shown in the table below.

2025/6 COUNCIL TAX DISCOUNTS & PREMIUMS FOR SECOND HOMES AND UNOCCUPIED / UNFURNISHED PROPERTIES

NOTICE is hereby given that, pursuant to Sections 11, 11A and 11B of the Local Government Finance Act 1992, as amended by the Local Government Finance Act 2012, The Council Tax (Prescribed Classes of Dwellings) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2012, The Rating (Property in Common Occupation) and Council Tax (Empty Dwellings) Act 2018 and The Levelling Up and Regeneration Act 2023, previously a resolution was made by Huntingdonshire District Council that, in respect of the whole of the Huntingdonshire area, the Council Tax discounts relating to classes of prescribed dwellings, will be as follows.

    1. Second homes - Furnished property, not occupied as someone’s sole or main residence – The Council Tax discount will be 0%. This means there is no financial reduction as a result of this classification being applied. From 01 April 2026, Charges to Second Homes will increase.

    1. Prescribed Class C Discount - Unoccupied and substantially unfurnished properties – The Council Tax discount will be 0% from when the property first becomes unoccupied and substantially unfurnished. This means there is no financial reduction as a result of Class C being applied.

    1. Prescribed Class D Discount - Unoccupied and substantially unfurnished properties which require or are undergoing major repair works to render them habitable or are undergoing structural alterations – The Council Tax discount will be 0%. This means there is no financial reduction as a result of Class D being applied.

  1. Empty Home Premium

      • Properties that have been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for between 2 years and 5 years will be subject to a 100% Empty Home Premium. This means that twice the standard Council Tax charge will apply.

      • Properties that have been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for between 5 years and 10 years will be subject to a 200% Empty Home Premium. This means that three times the standard Council Tax charge will apply.

    • Properties that have been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for 10 years or more will be subject to a 300% Empty Home Premium. This means that four times the standard Council Tax charge will apply.
