Notice of application to vary a full licence to abstract (take) water

John Arney has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to renew and vary licence serial number SO/042/0032/008 which authorises the abstraction of water from underground strata comprising chalk at Drove House, Old Alresford, Hampshire. The licence authorises abstraction for two purposes, a ground source heat pump and domestic use.

The variation applied for seeks to add the purpose Animal welfare and watering, to increase the period of abstraction for the ground source heat pump to all year, and to increase licensed abstraction to the following volumes:

For the ground source heat pump

  • 12 cubic metres per hour
  • 288 cubic metres per day
  • 80,000 cubic metres per year.

For domestic use and animal welfare and watering

  • 1 cubic metre per hour
  • 5 cubic metres per day
  • 1,000 cubic metres per year.

The abstraction for the ground source heat pump is considered non-consumptive as the water is returned to the same source of supply within 24 hours.
