Changes to the charge applied to Second Homes from 1 April 2025

Under the Levelling Up and Regeneration Act 2023, councils were given the discretion to charge additional council tax of up to 100% on furnished / second homes not used as a sole or main residence.

With effect from 1 April 2025, the council has decided to use its discretionary powers granted under Section 11C and 11D of the Local Government Finance Act 1992 to charge an additional 100% Council Tax premium on second homes, furnished properties which are no one’s sole or main residence. This means that the charge will increase to 200%.

The amounts shown above assume that there are 2 or more people in a property. You may be entitled to a reduction in your bill if you are the only person living in the property or your property is unoccupied. For more information call 03004 560560.
