What is happening?

LONDON BOROUGH OF BROMLEY

MEMBERS’ ALLOWANCES SCHEME 2025/26

Under the Local Authorities (Members Allowances)(England) Regulations 2003 the Council is required to make a scheme which shall provide for the payment of an allowance in respect of each year to each Member of the Authority.

The Council has made a scheme known as the London Borough of Bromley Members’ Allowances Scheme. The scheme shall operate from 1st April 2025 until 31st March 2026. The main features of the scheme are as follows:

Basic Allowance

  • All Members receive a basic allowance£12,901

Special Responsibility Allowances

  • Leader of the Council£45,280

  • Deputy Leader of the Council£29,417

  • Other Portfolio Holders (x6)£24,206

  • Chairmen of Health and Wellbeing Board, main PDS Committee and major Committees (x4)£10,296

  • Chairmen of other Committees and PDS Committees (x7)£8,668

  • Chairmen of Plans Sub-Committees (x2)£3,288

  • Vice-Chairmen of Committees (x10)£2,259

  • Leader of the largest Minority Party£15,759

  • Leader of second largest Minority Party£5,285

Quasi-Judicial Allowances

  • Members of Plans Sub-Committee, Licensing Sub-Committee and Appeals Sub-Committee (per meeting)£60

  • Members of Foster Panel (per meeting)£238

The scheme also allows Councillors to claim reimbursement of travel and subsistence expenses, for travel outside the Borough on approved duties only, under the same rules and entitlements applied to officers.

Under these Regulations, the Council in agreeing this Scheme has considered the recommendations of the Independent Panel commissioned by London Councils on the remuneration of Councillors in London entitled “The Remuneration of Councillors in London 2023 – Report of the Independent Panel.”

Copies of the Scheme and payments made in accordance with Regulation 15(1) and (2) are available for inspection by appointment between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, at Bromley Civic Centre, 2 Churchill Court, Westerham Road, Bromley, BR1 1AS – contact graham.walton@bromley.gov.uk
