Review Of Taxi Fares

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that West Dunbartonshire Council has reviewed the fares for the hire of taxis within the Dumbarton & Vale of Leven Zone of the local authority area and the outcome of the review is that there will be increases/decreases applied as follows:- 

Alter the time period when Tariffs will apply as follows:-
Tariff One and Tariff Four to change from the existing 6.00am until 9.00pm on Monday to Sunday to 7.00am until 7.00pm on Monday to Friday.

Tariff Two and Tariff Five to change from the existing 9.00pm until 6.00am on Monday to Sunday to 7.00pm until 7.00am on Monday to Thursday and from 7.00pm until 7.00am on Friday to Monday.

Tariff Three and Tariff Six to change from the existing starting point of 6.00pm on 24th December and 31st December to 7.00am.

Tariff Three and Tariff Six to change from the existing ending point of 6.00am on 27th December and 3rd January to 7.00am.

Increase the flagfall as follows:-
Tariff One to increase from £3.50 to £4.00
Tariff Two to increase from £4.10 to £5.20
Tariff Three to increase from £5.50 to £7.00
Tariff Four to increase from £4.50 to £5.00
Tariff Five to increase from £5.10 to £7.00
Tariff Six to increase from £7.00 to £10.00

A £25.00 charge shall be payable for a taxi booking made by telephone or via App where the taxi has been booked to uplift passengers from outside the West Dunbartonshire area and the passengers are not at the pick-up point after the pre-arranged time.

Running mile increasing by 20p on Tariff One, 20p on Tariff Two, £1.80 on Tariff Three, 20p on Tariff Four, 40p on Tariff Five and £1.60 on Tariff Six.

Waiting time will decrease from £36.00 per hour to £24.00 per hour.

The new fare chart will be as follows:-

7.00am to 7.00pm Monday to Sunday

For each additional 1/24th mile…... £0.10


Tariff Two
7.00pm to 7.00am Monday to Sunday

For each additional 1/26th mile…... £0.10
Tariff Three
7.00pm on 24th December to
7.00am on 27th December and
7.00pm on 31st December to
7.00am on 3rd January

For a distance not exceeding ½ OF A MILE……………………. £7.00

For each additional 1/48th mile…... £0.10

Tariff Four
7.00am to 7.00pm Monday to Sunday
(Only applicable when five or more passengers are being carried)
For a distance not exceeding ½ OF A MILE…………………….£5.00

For each additional 1/28th mile…...£0.10
Tariff Five
7.00pm to 7.00am Monday to Sunday
(Only applicable when five or more passengers are being carried)
For a distance not exceeding ½ OF A MILE…………………….£7.00

For each additional 1/34th mile…..£0.10
Tariff Six
Christmas and New Year hours as per Tariff Three
(Only applicable when five or more
passengers are being carried)

For each additional 1/56th mile…...£0.10

Any hire terminating out with the West Dunbartonshire area will be at a rate to be agreed at the time of hire.

Extra Charges
Taxi drivers may add on any charge incurred at any Airport when either dropping off or picking up passengers. Drivers must make passengers aware in advance that extra charges may be added to the fare. 

A charge equivalent to the initial flagfall on Tariff 1 shall be payable for a taxi booking made by telephone or via App and not cancelled before arrival when the taxi is no longer required. 

A £25.00 charge shall be payable for a taxi booking made by telephone or via App where the taxi has been booked to uplift passengers from outside the West Dunbartonshire area and the passengers are not at the pick-up point after the pre-arranged time.

Fares for Waiting
The Driver is, in addition to the above, entitled to charge for waiting whether in one stoppage or in several stoppages as follows: 
For each period of FIFTEEN SECONDS or part thereof....£0.10 (All Tariffs)

Soiling Fee
A fee of £100 is chargeable for any soiling which necessitates a taxi being removed from service for cleaning. Soiling in this context includes any soiling by means of food, drink, vomit, urine or excrement. It is proposed that the fare chart will apply from 22 April 2025. Any person wishing to make representations with respect to the Authority’s proposals should lodge same in writing to the undernoted by 25 March 2025 or by email to licensing@west-dunbarton.gov.uk
