ENVIRONMENT AGENCY
ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE
AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Land Drainage Improvement Works (Amended) Regulations 1999 SI 1999/1783
Yorkshire Debris Screens Programme: Car Brook Lower The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out improvement works to a flood defence on the River Don.
Work will take place on the junction of Catcliffe Road and Infield Road (NGR SK3945487897). The proposed improvement works will involve the following: installing a new screen at Car Brook Lower to comply with new CIRIA guidance and improve the assets resilience to high flow events. These works are part of a wider programme being undertaken between May and November 2025.
The Environment Agency considers that the improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of them. The works themselves are deemed low risk due to the size and scale. Debris screens are already established in channel and therefore will not be altering the immediate
environment or the habitat already established. Regarding the environmental sensitivity of the areas affected, it is deemed that the locations of this improvement work sit outside of any ecologically sensitive areas or designated sites. An ecological constraint note was undertaken for this site to identify and develop mitigation for any species present in the area. All
mitigation has been incorporated into an Environmental Action Plan which captures actions required to manage environmental risks. More information can be obtained from the Environment Agency Office, Lateral, 8 City Walk, Leeds, LS11 9AT.
Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the address specified below, within 30 days of the date of publication of this notice. Please direct any queries to 03708 506 506 or via enquiries@environmentagency.gov.uk and signpost F.A.O Daniel Price.
