THE GODOLPHIN SCHOOL (URN: 126519) SALISBURY, WILTSHIRE, SP1 2RA PROPOSED ORDER UNDER PARAGRAPH 1 OF SCHEDULE 14 TO THE EQUALITY ACT 2010
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN:
1. That upon receiving an application from the Responsible Body of the above establishment, the Secretary of State for Education ("the Secretary of State") proposes to make an order under paragraph 1 of Schedule 14 to the Equality Act 2010 in respect of the above-mentioned educational establishment.
2. That paragraph 1 of Schedule 14 allows the Secretary of State, by order, to make such modifications that appear to her to be expedient for removing from, or modifying, a restriction in a trust deed or other instrument which restricts the benefits available under the instrument to persons of one sex only and where the instrument concerns property applicable for or in connection with the provision of education in, amongst other institutions, an independent school in England and Wales a. which restricts the benefits available under the instrument to persons of one sex only.
3. That paragraph 1 of Schedule 14 means that the Secretary of State may only make an order where she is satisfied that the removal or modification of the restriction would be conducive to the advancement of education without sex discrimination.
4. That being so satisfied the Secretary of State proposes to make an order under paragraph 1 of Schedule 14 that would modify the principal governing document of the educational establishment (a Scheme of the Charity Commission for England and Wales dated 10 February 1986 as altered by a further Scheme of the Charity Commission for England and Wales dated 17 May 1999 and subsequently altered further by a Scheme of the Charity Commission for England and Wales dated 31 July 2013). The effect of which would be to enable the above-mentioned establishment to cease operating as a single-sex school providing education to girls only and to start to admit pupils of both sexes to its day and boarding schools.
5. That the Secretary of State has received requests that more time is given to make representations into the proposed order and has decided that it is appropriate to give more time.
6. That, therefore, any person interested may within six weeks of the date of this notice make representations on the proposed modification in writing to the Secretary of State at the email address given below or at the postal address given below.

NOTE: You do not need to repeat any representations that you made in response to the earlier notice regarding the proposed order, published on 1st August 2024. These will be taken into account by the Secretary of State before a decision is made on whether to make the proposed order.
