What is happening?

IPSWICH BOROUGH COUNCIL

FARES FOR HACKNEY CARRIAGES

Ipswich Borough Council pursuant to the powers contained in Section 65(2) of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 HEREBY GIVE NOTICE of the making of the following table of fares and charges in connection with the hire of Hackney Carriages in the administrative area of the Borough of Ipswich to take effect from 23 October 2024.

TARIFF ONE: Day Rate (0530 hrs to 2159 hrs)

Excluding Public Holidays and those covered by Tariff Three

Initial Display£0.00
Then after 5 seconds for the first 311.98 metres (341.185 yards) or 1 minute 28.694 seconds or part thereof (or a combination of parts of distance and time)£3.70
For each subsequent 141.95 metres (155.238 yards) or 31.743 seconds or part thereof (or a combination of parts of distance and time)£0.20
TARIFF TWO: Night Rate (2200 hrs to 0529 hrs) to also include Public Holidays but excluding those covered by Tariff Three

Then after 5 seconds for the first 188.39 metres (206.02 yards) or 51.483 seconds or part thereof (or a combination of parts of distance and time)£4.70
For each subsequent 120.05 metres (131.289 yards) or 23.208 seconds or part thereof (or a combination of parts of distance and time)£0.20
TARIFF THREE: Rate for Christmas (1800 hrs on 24 December to 0529 hrs on 27 December) and New Year (1800 hrs on 31 December to 0529 hrs on 2 January)

EXTRA CHARGES: (At the driver’s discretion)

For the carriage of each additional person in excess of two up to and including 4 persons£0.20
In addition to the above, for vehicles licensed to carry more than four persons, for the carriage of each additional person in excess of four£0.80
For the use of the luggage compartment£0.20
NOTE: If the Hackney Carriage is soiled by the hirer then a charge of up to£75.00 may be demanded by the driver
The proprietor of a hackney carriage shall cause a statement of the fares fixed by the byelaw in that behalf to be exhibited inside the carriage in clearly distinguishable letters and figures.

Any person wishing to object to the table of fares may do so by writing, within 14 days of the date of publication of this notice, to the undersigned at Grafton House, 15-17 Russell Road, Ipswich IP1 2DE, Or by email to licensing@ipswich.gov.uk.

If no objection is made within the 14 day period specified above or if all objections made are withdrawn the table of fares shall come into force on 23 October 2024 or the date of withdrawal of the objections whichever date is the later.

A copy of this notice has been deposited and may be inspected free of charge in the reception at the Council Offices, Grafton House, 15-17 Russell Road, Ipswich.
