Whitehaven, Modification Of Definitive Map & Statement For New Public Footpaths
What is happening?
WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981 DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT FOR THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (PARISHES OF MORESBY WEDDICAR AND WHITEHAVEN: DISTRICT OF COPELAND) DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT MODIFICATION ORDER (NO 4) 2024
The above-named Order made on 6 August 2024 if confirmed will modify the Definitive Map and Statement for the area by adding new lengths of public footpath in the parishes of Moresby, Weddicar and Whitehaven.
The effect of the Order, if confirmed without modification, will be to modify the definitive map and statement for the area by adding a new section of public footpath. commencing in the parish of Whitehaven from C4006 at GR 299753 517999 extending for about 500 metres north-northeastwards then east-southeastwards and southeastwards via a stream at GR 300070 517780 to Weddicar parish boundary continuing in Weddicar parish for about 9 metres to Moresby parish boundary crossing and re-crossing into Weddicar parish for about 197 metres to Weddicar parish boundary; continuing for about 53 metres to junction with FP 429002 at GR 300319 517653. Width 1.5 metres.
commencing in the parish of Moresby from U4013 at GR 300605 518633 extending for about 245 metres south-southwestwards to Weddicar parish boundary; continuing in Weddicar parish for about 855 metres via a stream at GR 300389 517820 south-southwestwards and south-southeastwards crossing and re-crossing into Moresby parish to GR 300450 517671 then turning westwards for about 133 metres to join FP 429002 at GR 300321 517651. Width 2 to 3 metres; and commencing in the parish of Whitehaven from GR 300146 518443 extending southeastwards for about 29 metres to Moresby parish boundary; continuing southeastwards in Moresby parish for about 242 metres via a stream at GR 300356 518288 to Weddicar parish boundary; continuing southeastwards in Weddicar parish for about 45 metres to GR 300397 518257. Width 2 metres.
and the following new sections of public footpath in the parish of Weddicar
from U4013 southwards for about 6 metres then west-northwestwards and south-southwestwards for about 168 metres via a stream at GR 300865 518467 and GR 300800 518487 to GR 300732 518434; then turning westwards and south-southwestwards and south-southeastwards for about 1197 metres; then southeastwards southwards and eastwards for about 914 metres via a ditch at GR 300682 517470 and GR 301156 517168, and a stream at GR 301306 517202 to GR 301328 517196; then southwards and south-southwestwards for about 483 metres to U4022. Width 1.8 to 3.4 metres. from GR 300732 518434 southwards and southeastwards for about 1725 metres via a ditch at GR 301144 517310 GR 301300 517214 and GR 301303 517208 to GR 301304 517202. Width 1.8 metres.
from GR 300863 518466 generally south-southeastwards and southwards for about 1507 metres via a stream at GR 301287 517312 to GR 301310 517202. Width 1.5 to 1.8 metres. from GR 301299 517375 southeastwards for about 118 metres via a stream at GR 301317 517357 then south-southwestwards for about 152 metres to GR 301328 517196. Width 1.5 to 2.8 metres.
from GR 300973 517890 west-southwestwards for about 525 metres via a ditch at GR 300583 517765 and GR 300493 517717 to GR 300491 517715 then southwestwards and westwards for about 70 metres across River Keekle via ford at GR 300462 517676 to GR 300450 517671. Width 1.8 to 3 metres. from GR 300372 518276 eastwards for about 38 metres to GR 300409 518280 then continuing eastwards and southwards for about 46 metres via a ford at River Keekle at GR 300422 518278 to GR 300440 518260. Width 2 and 3 metres. from GR 301271 517193 southwards for about 197 metres via a ditch at GR 301302 517019 to GR 301305 517014. Width 1.5 metres.
from GR 300993 517330 southwards for about 263 metres to lake at GR 300996 517083. Width 1.5 metres. A copy of the Order and map may be inspected free of charge at Whitehaven Library, Lowther Street, Whitehaven and the offices of the Countryside Access Team, The Parkhouse Building, Kingmoor Business Park, Carlisle CA6 4SJ by appointment only (ref 5.2.438). Details of the Order may be viewed on the Council's website and copies of the Order may be purchased at a cost of £2 per A4 sheet and £3 per A3 sheet. Any supporting statements or objections with respect to the Order can be sent in writing to the Countryside Access Team, (by post or email as addresses above) to be received not later than 25 September 2024 and should state the grounds on which they are made.
If no objections are duly made to the Order, or to any part of it, or if any so made are withdrawn, the Cumberland Council instead of submitting the Order to the Secretary of State may itself confirm the Order. If the Order is submitted to the Secretary of State for the Environment any representations and objections which have been duly made and not withdrawn will be sent with it.
