What is happening?

ENVIRONMENT AGENCY Application for variation of an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016

We've received an application to vary a permit from NNB Generation Company (HPC) Limited.

Application number: EPR/JP3122GM/V012 Type of regulated facility: Water management zones and effluent treatment units serving the Hinkley Point C (HPC) construction site

Address of regulated facility: Hinkley Point C Construction Site, Hinkley Point C power station, Wick Moor Drove, Near Bridgwater, Somerset, TA5 1UD

National grid reference discharge point: Existing discharge permitted via Outlet 12 at NGR ST 19315 46475

Receiving environment: Severn Estuary

Effluent type: Existing permitted discharge of trade effluent consisting of effluent from Cold Commissioning activities (permitted as water discharge activity (WDA) reference I in the current permit). This includes effluents generated from activities such as flushing, hydro-testing, byproducts from demineralised water production from the demineralised water plant and commissioning effluent treatment plant (CETP).

Volume: Existing permitted discharge of 1,500 cubic metres per day (m3/day)

What does the operator want to do?

The proposed variation (change) to WDA reference I is to include:

  • The addition of a permitted compliance limit for the discharge of 102 micrograms per litre (pg/l) of total copper
  • The addition of a permitted compliance limit for the discharge of 1,200pg/ of free chlorine
  • The addition of a permitted compliance limit for the discharge of 140pg/1

    of total Zinc

  • The addition of multiple constituent treatment chemicals from several cleaning and biofouling prevention products that are required to maintain the efficiency of the demineralised water plant

There are no other proposed changes to this existing WDA (activity reference l), or any other WDAs as part of this permit variation application.
