NOTICE OF DECISION PURSUANT TO SECTION 36C OF THE ELECTRICITY ACT 1989

THE ELECTRICITY GENERATING STATIONS (VARIATION OF CONSENTS) (ENGLAND AND WALES) REGULATIONS 2013

THE ELECTRICITY WORKS (ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT) (ENGLAND AND WALES) REGULATIONS 2017 - REGULATION 34

CORYTON SOUTH POWER STATION, THE MANORWAY, CORRINGHAM, STANFORD-LE-HOPE, SS17 6GN

Notice is hereby given on behalf of Coryton Energy Company Limited ("the Applicant") that the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy ("the Secretary of State") has granted a variation to the consent dated 14 March 1997 ("the 2000 Consent") for the construction and operation of a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine ("CCGT") generating station, located in Corringham, Stanford-le-Hope, ("the Development"), pursuant to Section 36C of the Electricity Act 1989.

The Applicant submitted an application ("the Variation Application") to vary the 2000 Consent to the Secretary of State on 5 January 2024. The Secretary of State has determined the Variation Application by granting the variation of the 1997 Consent, and in doing so has had regard to the matters set out in her decision letter dated 5 June 2024. The Secretary of State is of the view that the Variation Application does not result in development that would be fundamentally different in character or scale from the Consented Development, and that the Variation Application is appropriate and necessary and is satisfied that the changes are of a kind that are reasonable to authorise by means of the variation procedure in Section 36C of the Electricity Act 1989. The Secretary of State has decided it is appropriate to retain the original conditions within the Section 36 Consent and Deemed Planning Permission, irrespective of whether they have been discharged.

The variation of the 2000 Consent ("the Variation Consent") allows for the combined cycle gas turbine generating station at Coryton to be up to 850 MW capacity and comprise:

(a) one or more gas turbines, a heat recovery steam generators and steam turbines;

(b) air cooled condensers;

(c) one 400kV sub-station;

(d) ancillary plant and equipment; and

(e) the necessary buildings (including administration buildings) and civil engineering works

The Variation Application can be viewed on the project website: https://www.intergen.com/our-assets/coryton/.
