What is happening?

NOTICE OF COUNCIL TAX FOR 2024/2025
Notice is hereby given that on Thursday, 29 February 2024 Medway Council made the following determinations:

As required by Section 38(2) of the Local Government Finance Act 1992 (the Act) and in accordance with Section 30 of the Act, the amounts of the council tax for each category of dwelling in its area for the financial year beginning 1, April 2024 were set. The total tax includes the amounts being collected for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Kent Police and Crime Commissioner and individual parish councils applicable within the area. The total amounts payable for properties in each of the valuation bands are shown here:

As required by Section 11A(6) of the Act and in accordance with Section 11A(5) of the Act, the amount of discount for unoccupied and substantially unfurnished properties and uninhabitable properties (as defined in sections 7 (class C) and 8 (class D) of The Council Tax (Prescribed Classes of Dwellings) (England) Regulations 2003) from 1, April 2024 and in subsequent years was determined to be zero per cent.

As required by Section 11B(6) of the Act and in accordance with Section 11B(5) of the Act, the increase in council tax for long-term empty (unoccupied and substantially unfurnished) properties that have been empty for at least one year but less than five years from 1, April 2024 and in subsequent financial years
was determined to be 100 per cent.

As required by Section 11C(7) of the Act and in accordance with Sections 11C(3) and (6) of the Act, the increase in council tax for periodically occupied (unoccupied and substantially furnished) properties from 1, April 2025 and in subsequent years was determined to be 100 per cent.
