What is happening?

COUNCIL TAX EMPTY HOMES PREMIUM 2024/25
The London Borough of Redbridge decided at its meeting on 29 February 2024 that the Empty Homes premium, as specified under section 11B of the Local Government Finance Act 1992 as amended by the Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023, be amended on dwellings of the whole of the London Borough of Redbridge area, which have been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished as follows:
i) Where the period is 1 year or more, the Premium is set at 100%, and
ii) Where the period is 5 years or more, the Premium is set at 200% and
iii) Where the period is 10 years or more, the Premium is set at 300%.
In the above example, the premium is charged in addition to the existing council tax. This will take effect from 1 April 2024.
COUNCIL TAX SECOND HOMES PREMIUM 2024/25
The London Borough of Redbridge decided at its meeting on 29 February 2024 to introduce a premium of 100% in addition to the existing council tax, on dwellings that are occupied periodically, as specified under section 11C of the Local Government Finance Act 1992, as amended by the Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023, on dwellings of the whole of the London Borough of Redbridge area, which have been unoccupied and substantially furnished. This will take effect from 1 April 2025.
