Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council Council Tax Premiums for Unoccupied Properties 2024-25

NOTICE is hereby given that pursuant to Sections 11B and 11C of the Local Government Finance Act 1992 as amended by the Local Government Finance Act 2012 , The Council Tax (Prescribed Classes of Dwellings) (England)(Amendment) Regulations 2012 and The Rating (Property in Common Occupation), The Council Tax (Empty Dwellings) Act 2018, and The Levelling Up and Regeneration Act 2023, Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council by a resolution dated 11th January 2024 did determine that in respect of the whole of the Stockport area the Council Tax premiums relating to the classes of prescribed dwellings set out below will be as follows:

Class of dwelling Description of class of dwelling Amount of Council Tax
payable from 1st April 2024
Class C A dwelling which is unoccupied and substantially unfurnished After 1 year, 200% of the Council Tax will become payable as a long-term empty dwelling. (100% Council Tax plus a 100% premium).
Class D A dwelling which is unoccupied and substantially unfurnished homes undergoing, or having undergone, major repair work or structural alteration

After 5 years, 300% will be payable. (100% Council Tax plus a 200% premium).

After 10 years, 400% will be payable (100% Council Tax plus a 300% premium).

Class B A dwelling which is unoccupied but furnished (includes second homes) After 1 year, 200% of the Council Tax will become payable as a long-term empty dwelling. (100% Council Tax plus a 100% premium).

Reference to Classes are those prescribed by the Council Tax (Prescribed Classes of Dwellings) (England) Regulations 2003, and as amended by the Council Tax (Prescribed Classes of Dwellings) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2012.
