What is happening?
Statutory Notice: of the Proposed Dissolution of Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College
This notice is given by the Corporation of Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College in accordance with The Sixth Form College Corporations' (Publication of Proposals) (England) Regulations 2012 and the provisions of the Further and Higher Education Act 1992 (the Act) as amended by the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 and the Education Act 2011, of the proposal that Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College (Vane Terrace, Darlington DL3 7AU) be dissolved and the property, rights, assets and liabilities of the Corporation transferred to Swift Academies (Croft Road, Hurworth-on-Tees, Darlington, DL2 2JG), a multi-academy trust operating the following academies -Hurworth School, The Longfield Academy and The Rydal Academy.
The Corporation proposes dissolution in order to form a new 16-19 academy and to join with Swift Academies to become Inicio Academies (Multi-Academy Trust).
Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College provides sixth form education for 16-19 year old students across a wide curriculum comprising A Level courses with a smaller number of Level 3 Applied General courses, GCSE resit Maths and English courses and a post-A Level BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art, Design and Media Practice. The current number of students is 1950, all of whom are full time.
The date proposed for the dissolution of Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College as a designated Sixth Form College Corporation and the creation of Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College as a 16-19 academy with Swift Academies is the 1st April 2024 (or as soon as possible thereafter). All students currently attending Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College will continue their education in the new 16 - 19 academy. There are no plans to alter the education provision currently provided by Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College. A copy of the consultation document relating to these proposals is available free of charge at www.qeliz.ac.uk/consultation or via an email to consultation@qeliz.ac.uk and will be sent to anyone who requests it. In accordance with the provisions of the Act, consultation on these proposals will run from 20th November to 20th December 2023. All responses and representations must be made by 20th December 2023.
A summary of the consultation and its outcome will be published within two months beginning on the date after the end of the consultation period and the summary will be available free of charge to anyone who requests it.
