Members’ Allowances Scheme for Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Authority
In accordance with the requirements of the Local Authorities (Members’ Allowances) (England) Regulations 2003. Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Authority have made a Members’ allowances scheme to take effect for the period from 1 April 2023 until 31 March 2024, having had regard to the recommendations of the Independent Remuneration Panels of its three constituent councils.
The Scheme permits the payment of the following allowances to Members of the Fire and Rescue Authority (FRA) and is reviewed annually to account for any approved change in Annual Local Government Pay Settlements.
Basic Allowance (per Member) – £3,787.56 per annum

At its meeting on 18 July 2019, the Fire Authority reviewed the Special Responsibility Allowances payable under the Scheme in the light of a governance review that had taken place and reduced the allowances payable to the Chair, Vice-chair and Executive Members. They have also agreed that a Member could receive no more than one Special Responsibility Allowance.
Travel Allowances
Cars
Members’ own car: To align with the casual user mileage rate paid to non-uniformed personnel.
Public Transport
Rail (standard class only), bus and taxi (taxi where no other means of transport available) – fares reimbursed as incurred, subject to tickets/receipts being submitted wherever possible.

The Local Authorities (Members’ Allowances) (England) Regulations 2003
In accordance with The Local Authorities (Members’ Allowances) (England) Regulations 2003 Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Authority is required to publish details of Members’ allowances paid to Members and co-opted Members.
